What is Uramaki Sushi?
Uramaki sushi rolls are often called “inside-out sushi”, with sushi rice carefully hand rolled around a nori-wrapped centre of fresh ingredients like seafood, avocado and vegetables. Each perfect slice may also be coated in roe or toasted sesame seeds.
“Ura” means “inside, and “Maki” translates as “roll”, and this form of sushi is ideal for combining multiple ingredients for a taste sensation! Uramaki’s origins actually lie in 1960s Los Angeles, hallmarked by the ever-popular California roll.
